Contrarian hook

A hook that takes the opposite position from accepted wisdom in the niche.

Contrarian hooks open by negating a common belief. 'Stop doing X' is the most common template.

They produce high CTR and strong comment velocity but can erode trust if used without backing.

The hook must be followed by genuine, well-argued reasoning, or it converts into clickbait.

Why it matters

Contrarian hooks are powerful but carry risk. Use sparingly and only when the body of the video can defend the position.

How to improve it

  • 01Use contrarian hooks at most 1 in 5 uploads.
  • 02Always back the contrarian claim with proof.
  • 03Avoid contrarian hooks on topics outside your authority.
