Recommendation velocity
The rate at which a new video accumulates suggested and browse impressions.
Recommendation velocity in the first 24–48 hours is the cleanest signal of breakout potential. A flat velocity curve means the video is unlikely to break out without intervention.
Velocity is driven by hook rate, CTR, and session contribution. None of the three alone is sufficient.
Channels with consistent velocity across uploads tend to compound far faster than channels with one breakout per quarter.
Why it matters
Tracking recommendation velocity per upload is one of the most useful internal metrics a creator can build, regardless of niche.
How to improve it
- 01Track impressions per hour in the first 48 hours.
- 02Tag uploads as breakout / median / underperformer at 48h.
- 03Reverse-engineer breakout uploads template-by-template.
