Subscriber conversion rate

The percent of viewers who subscribe after watching a single video.

Subscriber conversion rate is the percent of unique viewers who subscribe within the lifetime of a single video.

Healthy rates sit between 0.5 and 2 percent. Elite long-form videos can hit 3–6 percent on subscribe-prone topics.

The metric is heavily influenced by the closing 20 percent of the video — when most subscribe decisions are made.

Why it matters

Subscriber conversion is the cheapest source of long-term audience growth. Doubling it on flagship uploads is more valuable than adding 20 percent more views.

How to improve it

  • 01Audit the final 20% of high-view, low-subscribe videos.
  • 02Add one explicit subscribe ask at the moment of highest payoff.
  • 03Use end screens that reinforce a subscription thesis.
